Who the fuck is Dan Behiels?

I see the work that I’m doing right now as hopefully one of the successful dominos that spurs the chain reaction and changes how Edmonton operates. Morality, duty, and culture are spread through an organization from the top down… our top has been rotten for a long time.

This all started with the July 30th article from Jonny Wakefield, reading it is what spurred my interest. The story didn’t smell right… it walked like a duck but floated like a body in a river. It took me about a week to piece together the fuckery that is the whole situation. Where I am right now…

Without further ado, I have laid out what I pieced together regarding Detective Education Series! I actually found the videos helpful, lots of stuff I did not know or understand was covered, check out the misconduct series here… but wtf were the pot jokes?? Someone else had to have written those, he looked so uncomfortable…

If you have watched the videos and understand the Police Act, skip ahead. I’ve taken the liberty of summarizing each video, so we are all on the same page before the infographics start. This is brief so if you have time you should check the videos out.

What did we learn from the videos in his MISCONDUCT series? Behiels didn't have any viable options once he was ordered not to investigate. Secondly, officers walk around lubed and depend entirely on the good graces of their superiors. It makes a lot of sense why so many are afraid to say anything. Since Behiels obviously knew all of this, it’s pretty simple to paint a picture of what might have led to his suspension. I think ‘might’ is an important word to use here. I’m doing my very best to stay lube free while the EPS is all…

According to the official media release by the EPS no one in their organization has done anything corrupt.

“CPS concluded their extensive investigation into the officer’s allegations and found no criminality or evidence of corruption by the EPS and its members,” it goes further to say that “Behiels is not currently facing disciplinary charges but that an investigation is underway”

No corruption of EPS or any of its involved members was found? Absolutely nothing? They are so beyond reproach that they didn’t even make a mistake, misjudge an action, or fail to consider how something could be perceived? Do you believe that? They fucked up respecting women in under 20 seconds on TikTok last week.

Further to all of this, Ed McIsaac said that Behiels is a “disgruntled employee”. If someone were to accuse you of something that grave, would you call them disgruntled and provide an explanation as to why the odd behavior that was highlighted was totally normal? Probably not. You’d be offended to even be asked and you’d call them a liar because that is what they would be… right Ed?

Come to think of it… the EPS didn’t say that Behiels lied either. (Shout to Angie Rivers for inspiration) Seems odd considering that the extensive independent investigation, completed by the Calgary Police Service a month prior to the article, "found no evidence of wrongdoing" by the EPS or its members. Logically CPS would have taken each allegation and determined if it was true or false. Could anyone have been cleared if that basic task was not completed? No... no they could not. How could the investigation have found that there was no evidence of corruption or wrongdoing but also not conclude that Behiels was lying? It couldn't have. If the allegation was true, then you’d have corruption OR wrongdoing that wasn’t found to be corrupt. If it was false… then Behiels lied.

Out of curiosity… would there be charges or liability if the EPS or Ed were to falsely accuse a member of deceit in the media? That's what I thought. Best to just ruin his life under the privacy of the Police Act like gentlemen. Ask Ron Robertson & Ken Montgomery where their fight against the system landed them. I have so many more questions on this one that I actually made an outstanding questions section at the bottom of this post.

Moving on, the quote from the EPS above stands in clear contrast to what Behiels said

“Certainly rising above the threshold of suspicion, I believe that members of the Edmonton Police Service have engaged in corrupt acts that have effectively insulated this criminal organization from investigation and prosecution,”

As of the end of July Behiels stood by the allegations he made in the internal memo of January 2021 that's quoted above. The way he speaks is fascinating to me... "above the threshold of suspicion" tells me two things: he had the evidence of corruption in his possession when he made the allegation and this fucker is still holding cards. If he had the evidence then so do other people. Namely McFee, Neufeld (if McFee gave it to him), and it was likely included in his leak to the media... so where is it?

This one stumped me for a bit... if Wakefield had it, why wouldn't he have shared it? The information in his report was pretty damning once you read the whole article... don't get me started on the intro and headline. At first I thought that he could be holding it back... stir up some interest before the main event. Over three weeks later and that theory is right out the window. Go figure, Jonny is another in a long line of people who have disappointed me... raging lead up and a soft finish.

It has to be out there... Behiels' blatant disregard for the EPS cone of silence and circle jerk policies is a decent indicator. What other officer have you seen go onto Instagram to discuss internal issues with pretty explicit "examples" of how the entire disciplinary system is set up to fucking destroy anyone that doesn't toe the thin line of Brezinski's dick?

Okay, that was uncalled for... but was it? Look at his stupid face and beady eyes... stick with me on this one. Everything that I read made it blatantly clear that McIsaac, McFee and Neufeld were the major issues... then I put faces to names and saw it like a flash bang on an acid trip. I can feel it in my bones. I'm telling you! Brezinski's presence in all of this has been silent but his stench has permeated every orifice. I made this interesting diagram based off of news articles, the videos Behiels made, and my own brand bullshit detector. It outlines all the allegations and explanations that we've discussed.

Would you take a look there... every other player in this game is guilty of something based on what we now know. Kevy B is just so innocent... as innocent as the zoo animal before that all access pass of nightmares he enjoyed. There are four things that I will guarantee are true. 1. the doctor that does this guy's prostate exam will never be the same. 2. he never called Lucy back, that son of a bitch! 3. Full guarantee here: jerks it to recruit videos 4. No one is innocent when they have that smashed asshole of a face.

Look, I'm not saying that Behiels is any kind of saint here but I am inclined to believe his story over the others. He brought information to the chief in 2019 and obviously nothing was done or he wouldn't have felt the need to let the public know anything in 2021. Secondly, he confessed after he did something to breach the code of conduct; who does that?! I'm all for the greater good but look at the history of corruption allegations. White shirts are untouchable and anyone that challenges that is fucking destroyed in every way that the system allows. When the taxpayers are footing the bill it doesn't matter how long the fight lasts.

So yes, the version of events as detailed by the one person who took responsibility for their part is the truth. There can be exceptions to this rule but not this time. This wouldn't be out in the public if Behiels hadn't released it. Every easy way out had him putting his head down and being a good boy but he chose to do this. Seems like a pretty smart guy given his videos... I can't see him running into heroic chaos without having thought it through.

MY THEORY: What did Behiels letter say about the three Deputy Chief’s in Edmonton? Wakefield only mentioned one, why? Here goes: McIsaac wasn’t allowed to run around jerking Carmen onto the villagers without supervision, that’s not how any military organization works. He answers to someone... between him and the Chief. The real question is what has that person done and what do they know? Kevin Brezinski is the “Intelligence Bureau - Deputy Chief”, if he were to assure McFee that the allegations of corruption were unfounded, well that could explain a lot. Maybe Dale is actually a victim… someone who put their faith in the wrong fart.

Who is Dan Behiels? He's a guy with a real sense of morality. He found corruption within the highest levels of the EPS, did something about it, and then TOOK FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. I don't know what year this guy is from but I'm not okay standing by and watching them crush him. Are you? Whistleblowers do all of the hard work... we just have to show them support, the how of it is very simple.

Outstanding Question

  1. According to the article… Behiels sent a memo to the chief regarding how he had leaked “investigative materials to the press”. If Jonny Wakefield didn’t receive any documents from Behiels then who did and where the fuck are they?

  2. If proof was submitted with the allegation then how did the Calgary anti-corruption unit find no evidence AND no wrong doing?

  3. What proof did Behiels find?

  4. What does "threshold of suspicion" actually mean?

  5. Why was Kevin Brezinski the only Deputy Chief mentioned in the article by Wakefield. Was he the only one mentioned in Behiels' memo?

  6. Did Chief Mark Neufeld of the Calgary Police Service have to assign or sign off on the independent investigation into his former co-worker of 24 years?

  7. Did Behiels speak to the investigators in Calgary?

  8. Did he provide proof to them or was it (not) given by EPS?

  9. Why would there be two separate investigations? Wouldn't the CPS investigation have determined the facts on the whole case? Why would EPS be left to investigate Behiels?

  10. What charges could be laid for the EPS or McIsaac lying to the media? McIsaac is no longer a member, does that change anything? Civil?

  11. Did Behiels lie or did the EPS and CPS?
